The Soul Kitchen

About Us

I had been a club DJ for 10 years and when approached to start a new radio show, it was widely expected I would be hosting a prime-time Saturday or Friday night show with all the newest big RnB and Hip-Hop records mixed as if in a night club.  A show with that club energy if you like.

That’s not what I had in mind though.  I wanted to break the mould.  What’s the point in doing yet another hype mix show, I want to stay true to the music, and provide something that real music people will enjoy and love…Something that I will be proud to call my own.

The Soul Kitchen was conceived on this way of thinking.  Largely based on contemporary soul music, commonly referred to as neo-soul or hip-hop soul and typically featuring the music from the likes of Dwele, Eric Roberson, Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, D’Angelo, Maxwell, Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Blackstar, Slum Village, The Roots, Lauryn Hill, Les Nubians, Donnie, Conya Doss, Amel Larrieux, Amp Fiddler, Boyz II Men, Angie Stone, Jill Scott, Aalliyah, Amerie, 4th Avenue Jones, Bilal, Carl Thomas, Brian McKnight, Brandy, Floetry, Foreign Exchange, Platinum Pied Pipers, Glenn Lewis, India Arie, Hustlechild, Javier, Jamiroquai, Jazzy Jeff, John Legend, Jon B, Kelis, Jonell, Middlechild, Lucy Pearl, Raphael Saadiq, Musiq Soulchild, Boyz II Men, Nate James, Omar, Pete Rock, Soul II Soul, Terri Dexter, Van Hunt, Rahsaan Patterson, Mad Lib, J Live, Ty

I realised it had to go further this and I convinced myself to start my own online radio station. The initial concept was simple to allow listeners to listen to radio online, but unlike many of the free radio stations out there we should not only allow free online radio but free music downloads as well.  There are many neo soul websites out there but few live radio stations allow you to download music.  So exciting times ahead.  We already had the name….  TheSoulKitchen.co.uk, it was time to get it started… The Soul Kitchen, not like all the other online radio stations but free mp3 downloads too.
