Choklate - Choklate (LP)

I know when I hear GOOD music, and I have no doubt that this album falls in to the good music category. Its been part of my music collection for about a year now and is still on heavy rotation both on my i-pod and in my house, and have no doubt that it will be for years to come… definitely a sign of a good album.

No matter how many times I listen to it, every time I am blown away by the fantastic song writing and diversity of sound, from gritty hip-hop to smooth soulful RnB, it caters to Neo-soul lovers and Hip-Hop heads as well as people from the RnB world.

Producer Vitamin D has incorporated live instrumentation skilfully with fat Hip-Hop beats which are set off beautifully by Choklates stunning vocals and lyrical content. I really feel she has something worth saying when singing, and am so confused as to why she hasn’t received the recognition that she so much deserves for this album.

Personal favourites on the album include Never Change, Waitin’ (the only guest appearance on the album from Chali 2na of Jurassic 5), Getting’ is Good, Wish I Hadn’t told you, Bigger than you, Whenever and the hidden track Fire water which I have only recently discovered. See I could probably list the entire album as there isn’t a single track that I skip whilst listening to it.
Her debut is definitely something worth singing about, every track an absolute Choklate treat for the ears and a sound so varied anyone would be hard pushed to dislike it. On the scale of 1-good Choklate scores a good with two big thumbs up!
