The Soul Kitchen

welcome to..... The Soul Kitchen

So what is this site? Well right now, it's just been born, in its infancy. We travel around going to as many gigs as we can and follow our love for good soulful music in all its forms - neo-soul, conscious hip-hop, real rnb, nu-jazz - whatever.. Then tell the world about it. It's simple.

THE FUTURE. Well very soon this site and its partners (more info soon) will expand into places dedicated to real music. Keep your eye on us for interactive websites, live 24hr radio, dj sets, free downloads and podcasts. In fact everything you could wish for as a music lover.

Right now, we do what we can with our limited time. If you love contemporary soul music and you wish to get involved in this site in any way... Write a review, go to a gig, give us a song we haven't heard, tell us something we don't know simply drop us a line via the contact button and we will get you on this site. Big things are coming.... Dwele - Sketches Of A Man

Dwele returns with a brand new collection entitled "Sketches Of A Man" coming off the back of two of the finest contemporary soul albums ever. Following "Subject" would take some kinda effort. Doing it twice was always going to be Dwele's greatest battle. The difference this time around is that Dwele is now best known in the public domain as ‘the dude that sings’ on Kanye’s “Flashing Lights”. Fortunately I – and hopefully you – have a deeper understanding for his music.

“I’m Cheating” has been doing the rounds on Radio, on the Internet and (unfortunately) on Limewire for what seems like an eternity now, and has been often skipped by those who know it well, but have only just scooped the album. I saw Dwele perform this song live before it became accessible to the masses and most (female) listeners in the audience we’re certainly unimpressed when he uttered the soft introduction “Everybody Cheat Right???”.......

Eric Roberson, Anthony David and Angela Johnson @ The IndigO2, London 04/10/08

Great venue, great line up, this evening promised to be a night of the very best in upfront soul music and I’m pleased to say we were not to be disappointed.

Hosted by Calvin Francis who warmed us up with some old skool soul on the decks, we were more than ready for the live acts. Starting off what was to be a great show was the unbelievably talented Angela Johnson, she single handedly wowed the audience with a selection of tracks, which, I am ashamed to admit I had very little knowledge of - I will definitely be looking her up now. Her voice had the crowd in awe as she casually belted out some of the best soul music I have ever heard at a live show- her vocals and her own personal keys accompaniment was the perfect combination. ...
